V.D.Satheesan
V.D.Satheesan is the 13th Chief Minister of Kerala and represents the Paravur Assembly constituency, from which he has been continuously elected since 2001. Born on 31 May 1964 at Nettoor in Ernakulam district, he is the first Congress Chief Minister from Ernakulam and the sixth political leader in Kerala to become Chief Minister without having previously served as a State Cabinet Minister. He served as the Leader of the Opposition in the 15th Kerala Legislative Assembly from 2021 to 2026. Satheesan entered public life through the Kerala Students Union (KSU), rising through student politics to become Chairman of the Mahatma Gandhi University Union during 1986–87, while also holding leadership positions in the NSUI and Ernakulam District Congress Committee. Before entering full-time politics, he practised as an advocate in the Kerala High Court for nearly a decade and was also associated with various INTUC-affiliated trade unions. He was first elected to the Kerala Legislative Assembly in 2001 and has since been re-elected in 2006, 2011, 2016, 2021 and 2026, serving as Congress Chief Whip in 2006, AICC Secretary in charge of Tamil Nadu in 2013 and Vice President of the KPCC in 2014. Academically, he holds an MSW from Rajagiri College, an LL.B from Thiruvananthapuram Law Academy and a Master’s degree in Law from Government Law College.
